The Future of Events

Updated: Nov 15

In-Person, Hybrid, and Virtual Events

The COVID pandemic threw everyone for quite a loop. The event planning industry was thrust into a position where a complete overhaul of delivering event planning was required. It was the birth of hybrid and virtual events. Hybrid and virtual events were the saving grace for many, if not all, event planners from 2020 - 2022. But now that the skies have cleared and COVID is no longer a major threat, how can you as an event planner ensure you are prepared for the next wave of changes in the event planning industry?

I’m glad you asked because today I’m going to shed some light on the future of events in 2023 and beyond.

In-Person Events

Everyone is itching to get out and meet people face-to-face, but you still need to ensure the safety of clients, event teams, attendees, etc. at your events. Items like face masks and sanitizing stations are a mainstay to deter the spreading of germs at events. Yes, this is an additional expense, but it saves you a ton in the long run. Companies like EventScan can make the process of ensuring a healthy environment for an event easy and effortless. They offer on-site testing, or you may opt for event prescreening services that are offered by companies like HealthShield.

Hybrid and Virtual Events

Over the past two years, virtual and hybrid events have grown more than 100% and this trend is far from over. They allow more flexibility and ample increases in participation and revenue for events. Hybrid events grant event participants the option of engaging in person or virtually. The sky is the limit as there is no ceiling to the number of attendees.

Also, many factors that exist with in-person events do not play a big role in hybrid or virtual events. For example, inclement weather has no bearing on the turnout for a virtual event. Attendees and participants can join the event in the coziness of their own homes and offices.

A lot has changed in event planning in the past couple of years, and hybrid and virtual events are here to stay. How was your event planning business impacted by COVID? What changes did you make with your company? How do you plan to move forward as we are coming out of the pandemic?
